DC-3 Yukon Sourdough

Experience a breathtaking piece of aviation history at the 2023 Westmoreland County Airshow, featuring the iconic DC-3 “Yukon Sourdough”! Built by the Douglas Aircraft Corporation in 1942, this exceptional aircraft began its journey as a C-47A-5 ‘Skytrain’ in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Later, it served as a ‘Dakota IIIU’ in the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII, flying VIP transport missions and medevac operations. After the war, the plane went through a series of transformations, from its time with Eldorado Aviation to becoming an integral part of the Air North fleet, proudly wearing the livery that represents its rich history.

The “Yukon Sourdough” now stands as the only remaining DC-3 in the Air North livery and is operated by the non-profit Ensign Dean R. Van Kirk Aviation Heritage Museum. This stunning aircraft has been meticulously restored to airworthy condition, with its vibrant colors and gold prospector tail art paying homage to its storied past. Join us at the airshow to marvel at this remarkable piece of U.S. and Canadian military and civilian aviation history, and immerse yourself in the exciting world of vintage aircraft, as you witness firsthand the sights and sounds of a bygone era!
